The context
The existing supply chain dashboard was not meeting the needs of its users due to it's overwhelming, bloated, and non-user-friendly design. Users are experiencing challenges in accessing and processing the vast amount of data and information presented on the dashboard, leading to increased frustration and inefficiency. The current design does not consider the users' goals or workflows, resulting in difficulty in performing essential tasks and identifying critical information quickly.

Dense tables with 15+ columns, no visual hierarchy, and raw database field names. Users had to interpret metrics like 'TTR [d]', 'RRE [Agg]', and 'ADJ VAR [$MM]' without guidance.

Tabs were organized by data source, not by user workflow. An analyst checking supplier risk had to visit 4 different tabs and mentally cross-reference data.

Decision-first hierarchy
Analysts start their day asking 'What's at risk?' not browsing tables. The UI needed to lead with answers.

Progressive drilldown
Users need the overview 90% of the time, deep data 10%. The old UI gave everything equal weight.
→ Built a 3-tier architecture: Overview → Node Overview → Node Detail with contextual filters that persist.

Contextual intelligence
Analysts were spending 30+ minutes writing reports that followed the same template every quarter.
→ Introduced an AI-powered assistant that generates executive narratives, suggests remediation, and models disruption scenarios.

The primary landing view consolidates enterprise KPIs, portfolio health trends, source mix analysis, and active alerts into a single scannable dashboard — replacing 4 separate Tableau tabs.

Node Overview: Filtered Intelligence
A contextual filter panel with persistent state lets analysts drill into specific sectors, products, or suppliers. Resilience scores, AVAR exposure, and product breakdowns update in real-time, replacing the need to cross-reference 3 separate tabs.
Stakeholder value: Analysts self-serve answers without requesting custom Tableau views.

Node Detail: Actionable Risk Profile
Each supplier node gets a dedicated profile with key metrics, affected products, alternative suppliers with qualification scores, risk dimension breakdowns, recommended actions with owners and deadlines, and a full activity log.
Stakeholder value: Procurement teams can act on risk immediately — no more emailing analysts for context.

Reflection
This project reinforced that enterprise redesigns succeed when you earn trust through domain fluency, not just design craft. Learning supply chain terminology, understanding resilience metrics, and speaking the analysts' language was as important as pixel-perfect execution.
